Egyptian Psamtik Ushabti - Shabti Sculpture statue museum reproduction art 10" www.Neo-Mfg.com home decor Size 10" Tall A 26th dynasty figure replica, inscribed with the Saite version of chapter six of the Book of the Dead. It was believed that the recitation would bring the figure to life to carry out all of the agricultural duties demanded of its dead master, Psamtik, son of Sebarekhyt, in the afterlife. In readiness, the shabti carries a pick, an adze and behind its left shoulder, a seed basket. The statue is attributed to the Saite period, about 600 BC. This replica figure is moulded from the original in the Department of Egyptian Antiquities at the British Museum. The ushabti (also called shabti or shawabti, with a number of variant spellings, Ancient Egyptian plural: ushabtiu) was a funerary figurine used in Ancient Egypt. Ushabtis were placed in tombs among the grave goods and were intended to act as servants or minions for the deceased, should they be called upon to do manual labor in the afterlife. The figurines frequently carried a hoe on their shoulder and a basket on their backs, implying they were intended to farm for the deceased. They were usually written on by the use of hieroglyphs typically found on the legs. Called “answerers,” they carried inscriptions asserting their readiness to answer the gods' summons to work. We offer many custom color finishes like Silver Leaf, Bronze, Bronze with Patina, Aged stone, Pewter, Copper All finishes are Faux finish, each piece of art is hand made and no two (2) pieces are the same.
